Oral Surgery

A Complete Guide to Oral Surgery Procedures

Sometimes, to correct an issue in the mouth, an oral surgery procedure is necessary. Our dental office offers all of the most common oral surgery procedures, including dental implants, jaw surgery, wisdom tooth removal, extractions and more! We have got you covered. Our highly-skilled, friendly oral surgeons pride themselves in patient comfort and excellent communication and care. We want to make sure, above all else, that your treatment goes as smoothly as possible - all the way through to recovery.

Common oral surgery procedures

There are various oral surgery procedures that are designed to improve the state of your oral health and bring your smile back.

Dental implants

A missing tooth or several missing teeth can be a big blow to one's confidence. Beyond that, missing teeth make a noticeable difference in the way the bite fits together, and how the teeth work and feel inside the mouth. By far, the most effective and lifelike method of tooth replacement is the dental implant. These prosthetic teeth not only restore the appearance of a missing tooth but the functionality as well.

Implants are comprised of three separate parts: the post, the abutment and the restoration. This way, if one piece fails (most likely the restoration, as this is the only portion above the gum line), the oral surgeon will not have to replace the entire implant. Implants can last a lifetime when well cared for, and are the gold standard when it comes to tooth replacement.

Wisdom teeth removal

Those unnecessary teeth in the back of the mouth that usually emerge during adolescence are a hassle. Wisdom teeth can cause all sorts of problems, from impaction to throwing off the occlusion of other teeth. It is best to have these removed as soon as they emerge, or when a dentist recommends they be removed. Our highly trained staff has performed many wisdom teeth removals over the years, and our focus on recovery after the fact, has our patients healing in no time.

Corrective jaw surgery

Jaw surgery is performed to correct various issues with the jaws and teeth. When braces are not enough to correct a severe overbite, for example, corrective jaw surgery may be necessary. The misalignment of the upper and lower jaws can be fixed via jaw surgery as well. This oral surgery procedure is meant to improve chewing ability, breathing and speaking.

Extractions

Whether a tooth is severely decayed or damaged, sometimes there is just no saving it. The good news is, our team specializes in pain-free extractions with very little downtime after the fact. After a tooth (or teeth) have been extracted, it is wise to replace that tooth with an implant right away to preserve the bite.
